Excerpts of letter from Rev.
Benjamin Piovan,
PASTOR of Ascension of Our
Lord Catholic Church;
On January 22, 1998, we will mark the 25th
anniversary of the tragic Supreme Court decision
that legalized abortion in the United States.
During these last 25 years, there have been over
35 million unborn children who have died through
abortion and just as many women spiritually,
emotionally and physically harmed. Our
Governor, Mike Foster, has issued two
proclamations to commemorate this 25th
anniversary. He designated January as a month of
Prayer to End Abortion and declared January 17 -
24, 1998, a week of Mourning for the Unborn and
their Mothers (and fathers).
So that such proclamation does not remain just
that, we at Ascension under the directives of our
Archbishop and the Archdiocese Pro-Life Office
will observe the event by erecting a
"Cemetery of the Innocent" consisting
of 1,000 crosses, each cross representing 37,000
aborted babies.
School flag will fly at half mast as a
reminder of this crime of our nation.
The Sunday of January 25th will be observed as
Atonement Sunday. On that day at all the masses
(weekend 24/25) we will participate in a postcard
writing campaign to override President Clinton of
Partial Birth Abortion Ban (only three additional
votes are needed for the override).
And last but not least and most importantly,
Pray, Pray, Pray, that this scourge of abortion
may be lifted from this country and from this
earth!
Love and God bless you.
