| As owners or managers of
a variety of business enterprises this is the time of the year to
stay focused. Those of us involved in retail know the importance
of the Christmas shopping season while others have to pay
attention to the details of everyday operations while looking
ahead to the beginning of next year. |
|
| Whatever our line of
business we must not only look at what’s ahead of us today or
tomorrow, but also next week, next quarter, next year and even
beyond. Many of us do a good job of planning ahead in our personal
life with insurance policies, short and long-term savings plans
and retirement and goal portfolios. |
|
| However, many of us
don’t do enough planning for our businesses. Depending on the
nature of your company this may not be the right time for
extensive planning. But every business has a slowdown and that
should be the period when you start looking ahead.
|
|
| Planning is a necessary
element in making a business succeed. Make the effort now for big
payoffs later. Set up a meeting with your key managers and get
them involved. People become better players and employees when
they know their input and involvement is desired and will be
utilitized. If you are a small business owner you may want to have
these discussions with others like yourself or your banker,
financial representative or attorney. |
|
| No one has a crystal
ball and can predict the future. However with planning we can be
prepared to see our businesses weather the storms on our way to
prosperity. |
|
| Speaking of planning,
don’t forget to mark Saturday, Nov. 15 on your calendars, which is
Election Day for the runoffs. We have a new governor to vote on as
well as parish president and parish council seats. |
