What is WMU and WOM?
Women on Mission® is a missions organization for women (ages 18 and up) through which women learn about, pray for and give to missions while growing spiritually and participating in the life and work of the church. The purpose of all Women on Mission activities is that every person have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel. Participation in ministry projects helps you to grow spiritually as well as helping those to whom you minister. Whether the project is a long term or short term ministry, the results are more Christians involved in God's work and more lives touched by the gospel message. Our WSCBC WMU group is very active and has many projects, both short term and long term, completed and in progress. Please come in and join us as you are led. You can participate whether you are a WMU member or not. God can use you wherever you are. Brantley Center Penny Drive - The first Sunday of each month, we will collect pennies to be given to the N.O. Brantley Center. The Brantley Center is a North American mission located on Magazine street in the French Quarter. It provides the homeless with an evening meal, a shower, shelter and a bed. The center aids approximately 600 people per month. For more information contact Ashley Joyce. There are also other projects ongoing to help the Brantley Center, including Christmas gift boxes. Angel Ministry - This ministry helps families that need just a little extra cash each month to make ends meet. Assistance is needed in the form of transportation to and from the grocery store and shopping. You may provide local store gift certificates or everyday items that you use in your home such as: toilet paper, diapers, tissues, deodorant, and over the counter medication. Monetary gifts should be clearly labeled "Angel Ministry". For more information or to volunteer in transportation, contact Monica Maddox. Food Pantry - Our church keeps a beneficence food pantry to help those in need. We are presently in need of an upright freezer in great conditions, paper grocery bags, bread, tuna and canned fruits. Louisiana Baptist Children's
Home - Annual Fall Roundup. Usually in October. You may see sample pictures of completed projects. We are showing the completed projects, not to give ourselves a pat on the back, but rather to give an account to the church family of how we are using the funds designated for this purpose. We were blessed to receive a grant in 2000 from Wal-Mart Foundation to further the work of this charity project. We thank them for this generous help and want to use these funds to give comfort and encouragement to as many as possible. During 2001, we have continued to make
afghans and lapghans. In October, we sent 9 afghans, clothing, and about two dozen teddy
bears to New York Bowery Mission to bring comfort and warmth to those affected by the
terrorist attacks. Items were also sent to Leslie Lowman in Africa to help with her
mission there. West St. Charles Baptist Church 10/30/2002
